High Water, White Water; More River Scenes Following Last Week's Rain

After a week of very intense classes, I will be returning to my routine walking and posting schedule on Monday. In the meantime, here is another set of photos from my walk along the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.

Keep in mind these were taken in the afternoon following 2.5 inches of rain that had fallen in the prior two days:

I really did manage to see more than the butterflies on the Leon Creek South Greenway on my walk on Monday, October 15. As a matter of fact, I saw a lot more, three blog posts worth. This is the second in that series of posts.

In the order of appearance in the sequence, these are: a red-shouldered hawk, a turkey vulture, a pair of mourning doves and a couple of barn swallows*:

* It can be a little difficult to distinguish barn swallows from some of the other swallows when they are inflight. I am basing the identification of these two on the deeply forked shape of their tales.

It always happens. Whenever I walk along the San Antonio River, the photos are there for the picking. And I always come home with an abundant harvest. Today was no different.

I realized after completing an edit of the photos for the first set to publish from this walk, the set I had selected are perfect for a Sunday Special Edition. So I will publish those this coming Sunday. Of course, that meant going back to Lightroom and selecting another set for this post.
