San Antonio River, Mission Reach, The Roosevelt Park loop trail
Today's photos:
The overcast sky cleared late this morning and the afternoon sun warmed the earth. Once again, my schedule today left the River as my best option for my walk late in the afternoon. And once again, this is only a small selection of the photos from the walk.

Cormorants, Mallards and an Egret

As autumn fades into winter, there isn't as wide a variety of birds along the river as there was during the summer, but the cormorants, mallards and egrets are year-round residents:

A Comfortably Cool, Overcast Afternoon Along the River

San Antonio River, Mission Reach, Mission Rd Trailhead downstream
Today's photos:
Autumn has definitely arrived in South Texas. Most of the vegetation along the banks of the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River has gone to seed and already has or is going dormant. There is much riparian wildscape work remaining in the restoration project, but for the most part, this is how it is supposed to look at this point.
Many only see "weeds" along the river banks this time of year. It would not generally be considered picturesque. But for those willing to take the time to look more closely, there is still much beauty to be found. Scattered among the dormant grass, there are fall wildflowers. They are the main theme of this post. And this is only the first of at least three posts from my walk today.
