San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Yanaguana Nature Trails
Today's photos:
Before breaking my arm early in the morning on Monday, September 10, I had been planning on walking the Yanaguana Nature Trail later that day. Today, a bit over a month later I finally made the walk. I'm still not nearly as functional as I was before the break, but in a rather ironic way, it has slowed me down and made me even more observant of my surroundings than I was before.
This is the first of three sets of photos from today's walk. I could easily have spent two or three times longer on the trail than my schedule and stamina allowed.
One of the plants that I was a little surprised, but very pleased, to see was the Lindheimer muhly. This is a native Texas bunch grass endemic to the Edwards Plateau. It is being used increasingly in home landscaping. Since this one small stand of the grass is growing under a tree, I suspect a bird had carried a beak full of seed from a planting nearby and dropped the seed before the bird could eat it.

A Necessary Reminder With Critical Implications
Thursday, October 11, 2012
"To be whole. To be complete. Nature reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from." - Terry Tempest Williams
This set of photos was taken on my walk along the San Antonio River on Wednesday, June 20. In the order of appearance there are: Guadalupe spiny softshell turtles, a pair of barn swallows, a little blue heron, a great egret and a black-bellied whistling duck.

Back Into the Woods, Part 2
Wednesday, October 10, 2012
This is the second of three sets of photos from my walk on the Wilderness Trails in Brackenridge Park, Monday, October 8. With the recent rain and cooler temperatures, the fall wildflowers are blooming in great abundance throughout Bexar County:

Brackenridge Park, Wilderness Trails
Today's photos:
It was back to the trail again after almost a month on the unforeseen detour. It was an awesome experience to say the least, but still something of a challenge. There is something about the quality of the light at Brackenridge Park that always fascinates me.
These photos are only a few of the highlights from my walk today. I will publish another post with more of the photos later in the week.
