Medina River Greenway, Old Applewhite Rd Trailhead, West
Today's photos:
Once again, this was a walk with more beauty and wonder than can be viewed in a single post without producing a total sensory overload. This set of photos communicates the basic feeling of the experience, but there was so much more. There will be at least one, possibly two, more posts of photos from this walk.

Brackenridge Park, Wilderness Trails
Today's photos:
This was another early evening walk that almost didn't happen due to last minute changes in my schedule today. As I have mentioned before, either Brackenridge Park or a segment of the San Antonio River are default locations for my walks on days like this. Given that I posted the series of photos of the wood duck on the river yesterday, the wilderness trails in the park seemed to be the best path forward.
As it turned out, the evening sunlight immediately captivated my attention. The light provides the unifying theme for this series of photos.

An Enchanted Afternoon, Part 2, The Wood Duck
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
While I have become familiar with much of the regular flora and fauna inhabiting Bexar County and know where they are likely to be found, I really can't anticipate all that I will encounter on any given walk. My walk along the park segment of the San Antonio River a week ago on Monday, May 14 was an excellent example of this.
I was pleasantly surprised to happen across a very colorful male Wood Duck. This bird looks like something straight out of a fairy tale:
