McAllister Park, The Southwest Corner

Today's photos:

Today's walk was an absolute delight. The weather doesn't get much better for a walk than it was this morning. My schedule for today made a return to McAllister Park my best option for this walk.

In the southwest corner of McAllister Park, there is a flood control retention dam that was built in the mid-70's to help control flooding downstream in Salado Creek. In wet years, a small lake forms behind the dam. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the recent rain was enough to leave a fairly good sized pond surrounded by a fairly large marshy area.

The photos tell the rest of the story.

  1. Boy, do they! I always love how intimate and quiet your photos are. They feel as gentle as a slow breath. I have a question: are those bluebottles or are they dragonflies-- or are they the same thing? Or something different entirely?

  2. Thanks, Courtenay. Blue bottle flies are metallic blue flies a little bigger than house flies. These are Common Bluet Damselflies. They are one of the most abundant damsel / dragonflies in the world.
