The San Antonio River, Mission Reach, ConcepcĂon Park Trailhead, South, Misty Drizzle

Today's photos:

I was very tempted today to make excuses and not go on a walk. If the precipitation had been any heavier, I probably wouldn't have risked the camera getting wet. It was windy and a bit chilly. The real story of today's walk, though, was the heavy overcast sky with widely scattered showers and misty drizzle. The photos tell the rest of the story.

As is typical of my walks along the San Antonio River, there will be at least one more post of photos from today.

The White-tailed Deer of Salado Creek

When I walked the Salado Creek Greenway on Friday, September 16, one of my encounters was with a small herd of maybe four or five white-tailed deer in the wetland just downstream of where the wildfire had burned five days earlier. On my return to the wetland area on Friday, November 18, I was pleasantly surprised to not only find the herd grazing in the same location, but also that it had at least doubled in size.

It is pure speculation on my part, but I have been wondering if the herd has been driven into the more open grassland as a result of the wildfire that had burned upstream in the more heavily wooded area. Whatever the reason for them being more out in the open, they are a nature photographer's pure delight:

Today's photos:

When I headed out for my walk along the San Antonio River on Monday, I thought I would do all three walks this week on the river. Then today, I found myself at the Oakwell trailhead on Salado Creek. There really is no predetermined plan for where I will walk. I end up where the spirit moves me for each walk.

Today's photos say more than I could ever hope to be able to write.
